Our Region

Boys and Girls Clubs of BC exists to support local Clubs and communities in BC and the Yukon.

Support to Local Clubs
We support and strengthen the services delivered by the local Boys and Girls Club organizations within the province of British Columbia. Together, these Clubs:
  • reach over 26,000 young people and their families each year;
  • have a professional staff of 675; and
  • have almost 2,000 volunteers who contribute more than 100,000 hours of service each year.

The Clubs' work with young people and families is achieved through a network of services that range from traditional recreation programs to child care, camping services, drug and alcohol counselling, services for teen mothers, leadership development, programs for street youth, programs for parents and a variety of activities geared towards preparing young people for work/employment-related environments.

New Club Development

We respond to requests from parents, youth, and other interested citizens who have expressed interest in establishing Boys and Girls Club services in their communities. This community development process may lead to the establishment of new Boys and Girls Club services, but the focus is on assisting communities to identify existing agencies and programs that, if modified, could meet developing community needs without introducing new services that might compete for finite dollars and volunteer resources.

Program/Service Development

We monitor and pilot innovative service models that may offer new ways to meet the needs of children and families. This acknowledges our belief that BC's children and families deserve access to the most enlightened and effective service approaches available and that we have an obligation to seek out and test those that hold hope for better solutions.

  • Our parenting programs provide support and education to parents in conflict with their teens. The Parents Together program was developed by Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver in 1988, and currently operates in 15 communities across BC under our overall direction. For more information about this program please click here.
  • A number of years ago we became involved in bringing the concept of Developmental Assets and the Healthy Communities • Healthy Youth initiative to communities throughout British Columbia Asset Building" encourages adults and youth to give higher priority to ensuring that their homes, neighbourhoods, and communities offer young people a chance to acquire the opportunities, skills, relationships, and values that are the foundation upon which they will grow to happy, productive, and responsible adulthood. For more information on Asset Building, go to the Asset Building Champions website or check out the Search Institute website.
